The Slave Trade.

—“It would be easy to prove,” says Humboldt,“that the whole archipelago of the West Indies, which now comprisescarcely 2,400,000 negroes and mulattos, (free and slaves) received,from 1670 to 1825, nearly FIVE MILLIONS of Africans! In these re-volting calculations on the consumption of the human species, we havenot included the number of unfortunate slaves who have perished in thepassage, or been thrown into the sea as damaged merchandise.”
